Destination San Francisco!
The colorful and cosmopolitan city of San Francisco charms visitors with its culture, history and inspiring beauty. The graceful, 1.7-mile Golden Gate Bridge, connecting to Marin County, is one of America's top construction marvels and an unforgettable icon. Enjoy Golden Gate Park, with a thousand acres of gardens, lakes, and walking paths, Strybing Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, and the tranquil Japanese Tea Garden, overlooking a waterfall and pond framed by fragrant wisteria.

San Francisco's best museum, the Exploratorium, is a fun, quirky museum of science, art, and human perception that features 650 hands-on exhibits. Its pitch-black Tactile Dome may inspire you to approach challenges in a whole new way. The city's historic waterfront overlooking the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, still serves as a fishing pier. Nearby San Francisco attractions Pier 39, The Cannery, and Ghirardelli Square are irresistible to visitors.

Take a ferry ride from Pier 41 to Alcatraz Island, and tour the former penitentiary's dock and cellhouse. The historic cable cars travel century-old routes through the Financial District, Chinatown, Nob Hill, Haight-Ashbury and the Castro District.

A dragon-draped archway at the intersection of Bush and Grant streets announces the entrance to Chinatown, where streets teem with stalls, herbal shops, temples, and eateries. Museums include the Chinese Historical Society of America and Chinese Culture Center. Stroll over to North Beach, San Francisco's Italian neighborhood, for an espresso at Caffe Trieste or century-old Molinari's deli.

Visit City Lights Bookstore, a Mecca for bohemians and book-lovers. Picture-postcard views include Alamo Square, where San Francisco's Victorian homes are juxtaposed against downtown's skyscrapers, and crooked Lombard Street, that descends steeply between Hyde and Leavenworth streets. Hop the Red-and-White Ferry to Sausalito from Fisherman's Wharf for spectacular panoramic views of San Francisco Bay. Sausalito's outdoor cafés and shops overlooking the city are charming.  [Top]
